These four solargraphs are selected from a larger group created on Gapado Island, South Korea. As the Earth rotates and the sun moves across the sky, the trajectories of the sun, influenced by the rotation of the Earth on its axis, leave their traces on the photographic paper. The varying sun movements from straight lines to circular arcs are the results of the containers used. Placed in a volcanic rock pool, the can containing the paper would sometime become wedged in a crevice, while at other times, a gentle breeze would spin the can. Each image recorded around 9 hours of sunlight.
